Abstract

The author, Lisa Bolin, uses vivid imagery to describe the drabness of a shadow life, where one's spirit is muted and joyless. Shadow Life

A Poem

Montenegro June 2018: © Lisa Bolin

Don’t live a shadow life. You know, the one that’s in the half-light? Where your soul is shades of grey, There’s no sun, no light, no play. The colour seeps out, insipid, bland, You fade to nothing, no demand, Hopping out of the spotlight, the frame, Hiding the pain, sadness, and shame.

Instead, look to the light, the healing passion, Embrace a new life, authentic, love-fashioned. The world is more than concrete and steel, It’s blossoming, nurturing, caring, and real, If you open yourself to the healing light, To a higher power, to inner-knowledge that’s right, You too will grow, develop, and thrive, You will cast off the shadow, know you’re alive.

~thanks for reading~
