Summary

The website content reflects on the societal taboos and lack of comprehensive education surrounding women's sexuality and reproductive rights, emphasizing the fear-based approach rather than a focus on pleasure and informed choice.

Abstract

The text presented on the website is an evocative poem titled "Sex Miseducation," which serves as an ode to women's sexuality. It critiques the societal norms that prioritize fear and silence over open discussions about female pleasure and reproductive experiences, such as miscarriages, negative pregnancy tests, and stillbirths. The poem underscores the absence of honest conversations about enjoying sexuality and the stigmatization of topics like abortion. It calls attention to the societal pressure to conform to restrictive norms and the suppression of women's autonomy over their bodies and desires. The content is part of a series from Lindsay Soberano Wilson's book "Hoods of Motherhood: A Collection of Poems," which challenges outdated notions of motherhood and advocates for a modern understanding of women's experiences.

  • The author emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and respecting women's experiences and choices related to their bodies and motherhood.

Sex Miseducation

an ode to women’s sexuality

They will have you teetering on the tightrope of fear before they tell you anything real before they prepare you for a miscarriage before they prepare you for a negative pregnancy test before they prepare you for a stillbirth before they prepare you.

Before they prepare you they will have you teetering on the tightrope of fear before they tell you how or that you can enjoy yourself.

No, that’s not spoken about. No, pleasure does not exist: don’t speak of it don’t name it don’t think of it don’t dream it don’t be it and certainly don’t do “it.”

So they will have you teetering on the tightrope of fear before they tell you what it’s like; or where to get an abortion, or how to know if you want one.

No, that’s not for you that’s for them and that’s a sin. We don’t talk about that or this or this or that and that’s a fact. That’s a matter of fact.

We don’t like that. You don’t want to be that. That. That’s that. That’s a matter of fact.
