Serpentine

Submerged until she dies; inclined until I die.

Trollinho

Did you know that when the moon doth rise

It leaves a scar within the sky?

When darkness encircles somberly (somberly …)

Is when new life begins

But ah! Serpentine

She slithers through my head, the sockets —

At birth she acquired certain gifts

Weariness, amiss on how love lifts

Spirits ring and the vacant chimes of time

Queen of belles, to thee, I raise my spine

To grow myself accustomed to you, my dear, and

Where the sun doth set, there

They haven't known the fervency yet

Of her flowing ember hair

Touch; I would not dare! You try

Disrupting peace would be a mean thing to do

Ah! No shrew, but Serpentine

She slithers through my brain, the cavity —

Causing a ruckus and a din

Never known, described herein

That causes great men (quick and nimble)

To tremble their knees, weak as they fall

A queen of the belles, she watches and licks

A beauty in woe that foretells

The second coming of a gracious kind

Come in here, we’re hand in hand

Guarding the fortress with our blockade

Gathering troops for a nightly rave

To fight this creature, scary to mortals, yet

Quite as far as I can see, a lovely

Dove that yells in flight

Oh, what fright it foretells

But ah! Serpentine

She wiped my face from cheek to cheek, clean

Of the blood drained from inside

Soon she’ll prey on one of mine, a kin

If and when her precious eyes awake

They reveal, alone

A precious snake

Killing birds without a stone

Eating whole at the belly of this creature I own

But the reptilian glow in her eyes, a dance that

Burns like Hell across the sky

But ah! Serpentine

The pitiless thing emerged, wrought constellations in the night

Bigger than life, her fangs locked in and sank

Submerged until she dies

Inclined until I die.

This poem was dedicated to a friend, but also took inspiration from miscellaneous relationships I can’t remember now. My friend inspired me with art using fairies and queens. Something about the blue-green in her tattoos reminded me of a snake.
