WRITING PROMPTS
September’s (Tiny) Writing Prompts
The Kraken Lore Prompts
Ahoi ihr Landratten!
Ahoy landlubbers!
You all probably heard of Gulliver’s Travels. I’d summarise them as stories about an adventurer who constantly has bad luck at sea — shipwreck, pirates, storms, and mutiny. Whenever he sets sails, a screw-up is about to happen. Probably, he should have remained onshore, but we’d miss out on those great stories.
Anyway, I’m sailing off course now too. During his first two adventures, Gulliver encounters the tiny people of Liliput and the giant people of Brobdingnag, respectively.
Now, landlubbers, it is your turn!
Look at the following photos for this month’s prompt and imagine the adventures of tiny people encountering giant things. You can build the story based on all images (for example, in the form of a travel diary) or get inspired by single photos. You may use these pictures, but please credit me.

(Tiny) Adventure Awaits!
Who are these tiny adventurers, and where do they come from? Why do they travel, and what is their goal?

A Small Step for You — A Giant Footprint for Them
What amazing giant things do they encounter, and how do they interpret these?

Leaves the Size of Sails
What are the main challenges in these gigantic lands? How big is everything compared to them?

Encountering Giant Hungry Monsters
In every adventure story, those brave travellers encounter threats. What threatens these tiny adventurers?
A few things to consider:
- Feel free to use these prompts to inspire your writing, and consider publishing your story in The Kraken Lore.
- Please, use the tag “The Kraken Lore” so the Kraken Crew (Sorry, but it is not Krakenoites or Krakonians) can easily find them.
- Challenge your fellow writers if you like! How does that work? Like this example: “I challenge JF Danskin, Kathy K, and Sam W. to write a tiny adventure story!”
