Senior Citizens Realizing Time May Be Short
The end may be closer than expected
Old age can be enjoyed
Time is indeed running out when the sunset years come into a life. It can also be called winter. When seniors feel that time is short, many get busy trying to make up for lost time. They may try to accomplish some of the things that they wanted to do when they were younger but which never happened. None of us knows when our time on this earth will be up, but there is no doubt that it becomes closer to a reality when one becomes a senior citizen.
There are different definitions of what a senior citizen is or when one becomes of that age. Generally, it seems to be at age sixty-five although people are being invited to join retirement groups at earlier and earlier ages. People start getting invitations to join AARP before their fiftieth birthday.
Some seniors are working well past what used to be the normal retirement age of sixty-five while there are still some fortunate (or unfortunate depending on one’s point of view) people who retire while still very young.
When a person becomes a bona fide senior citizen at approximately age sixty-five, whether still working in gainful employment or not, it becomes a certainly that the time left on this earth is now going to be less time than has already been lived.
Although people can expect to live longer than in previous generations and attain a ripe old age, the body and mind tell a person that changes have come or are rapidly arriving. The physical and mental wellbeing may have been diminished or are likely to do so. Life may become more precious as the years are numbered.
The large group of the population known as the baby boomers, who were born between the post World War II year of 1946 and until 1964, have been a large influence in many areas of society. Their spending habits have made many companies extremely profitable as they have come of age to use certain products. Now that they are becoming senior citizens in larger numbers, they are making their mark on other areas of spending such as anti-aging products.
More of the baby boomers are interested in remaining young and vibrant than senior citizens of years gone by. They want to find and use products which will help them to remain as youthful as possible.
During World War II when Japanese Americans and their immigrant parents were incarcerated in camps in remote areas of the country, the senior citizens faced challenging times. They often felt useless as there was not much for them to do. Some became depressed and felt that their time was short because they could not feel productive. Their mental and physical health suffered. People in any type of captivity suffer ill effects.
Old people can find meaningful activities to occupy their time. They can get satisfaction by using a computer for various tasks and interests. They can surround themselves with friends and family. They can spend time with young people. They can still enjoy life.
When seniors feel that their time upon the earth is short, they may escalate their health concerns and activity in order to make their quality of life as pleasant as possible in their remaining years. This is a big reason why the health and wellness industries have gained greater economic stability. People want to remain in good health as long as possible and are willing to buy products to help maintain their health and improve their quality of life.
Growing old can offer more time to enjoy life if the body and mind are healthy enough to do their part. Challenges often come with age, but aging can be pleasant if conditions are good.
It is wise advice to enjoy every stage of life no matter what your age may be. No one knows how long they will live. Life is to be enjoyed with each moment and period in time.
