Self-Talk Your Way to Inner Peace

Shut the Hell Up!!!

Do you self-talk or do you think it is weird to talk to yourself? As an only child, I can recall having countless conversations with myself, so self-talk comes naturally to me. In my adult life, I have stepped up my self-talk, more so out of necessity.

Self-talk is needed because there is a tiny voice in my head that usually decides to speak when she is not spoken to. She feels like she has the power to speak her mind and sometimes in a negative self-loathing way. So, I have to check her and get rid of the negativity that she sometimes spews. Therefore, I will replace those negative thoughts with loving words of affection.

For instance, if I am looking in the mirror and I notice my imperfections, that damn infamous voice will start yapping. Like seriously, I wish she would shut the hell up, I did not ask for her opinion. Naturally, she refuses to shut up, therefore I will begin to use my own voice along with positive words to drown out her unnecessary noise.

The first thing I say out loud is “I love you” and then I tell my imperfections that they are beautiful. Sending love to myself (self-love) is the best technique that I have used to quiet that negative voice in my head. She has now calmed down and understands that I am in charge of my own thoughts, after all, my inner thoughts are not part of a democracy.

Self-talk is a pathway to inner peace.

Why is self-talk necessary? Self-talk is necessary because you can literally talk your way to inner peace. Your words are powerful, and they can be used to change your entire world. We all have the ability to change our thoughts and eventually we can silence that noise, that annoying voice in our heads.

“You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” — Louise L. Hay*

Instead of allowing that inner voice to fill our thoughts with negative commentary, take immediate action by drowning out the noise. Start by sending love to yourself and use positive words of affection to get rid of that self-loathing voice.

Eventually, your inner voice will understand that you are in control of your own thoughts, which will consequently lead to more inner peace.

I was inspired to write this by Louise Hay who was an inspirational self-help author and coach. She promoted self-love and positive self-talk as a pathway to healing. I use her techniques in my morning routine, and they have helped me to take better control of my inner thoughts. Consequently, I have found that I have achieved more inner peace and I have for sure developed more self-love.

Always love and accept yourself and take control of your thoughts.
