Self Habits I Wish I Knew at 15 That’d Have Made Me a Millionaire by 45

Habits are the ingredients, and if you want to reach a specific goal, you need specific ingredients.

Whatever others may say, you choose your own destiny.

When you reach your mid-30s, it’s natural to reflect on your life and recognize how certain habits, had you known their impact earlier, could have potentially changed the course of your life. Unfortunately, it’s too late to go back and start anew.

There are no right and wrong habits — there are habits for your goals. If you want to become financially able, you’ll need to have a patient habit. If you want to become a learner, you’ll need to have a consistent habit. Each goal requires a different habit.

Hence, if known before, we could have prioritized our years wisely. But it’s not too late.

Here is a list of 4 habits that, if we knew before, could have changed our lives, both financially and mentally.

1. In a few years, there will be technology to replace you. Work on things that can’t replace you

I grew up learning cursive writing because, as per my mom, people loved cursive handwriting.

Then, my school taught me to write good emails and learn synonyms for the spelling bee competition, only to know that after 10 years, someone would invent ChatGPT.

You must know how it feels to learn something during my school years that holds no value in the present. Focus on developing soft skills that cannot be replaced by technology. Skills like networking, communication, negotiation, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence are unique to humans and difficult for AI to replicate.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills will always remain valuable. Invest time in these skills rather than dwelling on outdated or replaceable hard skills.

2. Even if everyone else is doing, you do what you’re best at

Life turns out differently for everyone.

Steve Harvey became famous at the age of 40, while the baby “Jacob Joseph Worton” from “Baby Day Out” became popular as a child.

But certainly, you cannot walk on someone else’s path just because it turned out to be good. You shouldn’t become a jack of all trades and spread yourself thin.

  • Knock on the right door and keep knocking.

Trying to be everything at the same time is not the right thing. Find your skills and what excites you and combine them into a formula for your success. You have more chances to become profitable with a habit you do consistently than a habit you hardly give time to.

Many Medium writers I know quit making YouTube videos and Substack to just focus on their writing. Because they understood the power of doing what’s made for them.

3. Keep your faith larger than your fears

Obstacles are part of our lives.

But you need to believe in yourself more than your fears. Your fears are like barriers you place when you can’t move forward. At that time when you are stuck, have faith in your abilities.

The world appreciates individuals who have confidence in themselves. By having faith in yourself, you can present a final version of yourself that is well-developed and admired. Similar to a tree that appears vibrant and green on the surface but has countless roots supporting its growth, let faith be the foundation behind your progress.

Setbacks and failures are temporary — while faith is a constant force that can guide you through challenges.

4. Trust intuition first, then data, and then your logic

I always let intuition guide me.

Our inner voice is your most authentic and trustworthy guide for decision-making. That’s why embrace alone time and look at what your intention guides your wards. Your inner voice holds truth as it originates from within. It is a subtle blessing, silently guiding you towards what is right, slowly.

Intuition guided Buddha, Aurelius, and so many others through meditation.

When you find yourself in a state of being stuck, take the opportunity to meditate and spend time alone. This will enable you to discover insights and hear guidance leading you toward the right path.

Before making decisions, listen to your heart. Let it guide you. Once you have received the answers through intuition, proceed to gather data and use logical reasoning to support them.

Final thoughts:

You chose your own destiny.

It’s ironic how we often believe that success can be attained through money when in reality, it is the result of one’s habits and actions.

Habits are the ingredients, and if you want to reach a specific goal, you need specific ingredients.
