If I Can Do It, You Can Do It Too
My Medium journey began back on 15th November, and in that time I’ve been reading and learning all about the various ways to ‘get noticed’.
There are so many posts about how to gain 100 followers, how to write the best stories, how to use the right tags. You name it, information is abundant.
So, I read it. I read lots and lots.
I fell into the trap of following people for follow sake, and it’s not the best way to do it, but it worked.
I don’t follow everyone back. Sorry, that’s just the way it is. I’ve noticed some people follow me who don’t even have anything published, so there’s nothing to follow anyway.
I’m not a writer; scratch that.
I am now a writer. There. I’ve said it.
I’ve published via some publications as well as directly, and am signed up to the following:
However, I have noticed that when I self-publish … I don’t get as much interaction.
Readers… We Need Readers
As well as the writing, Medium is about interaction. Followers are all well and good, but when it comes to monetising, followers don’t rake in the £££ (not that I’m expecting £££!)
It’s the readers that make it all worthwhile. Not just for the ‘claps’ and the comments, but also because they (you) have taken the time to read what I’ve written.
Currently, my best performing story is this one; it’s resonated the most (so far). I think this is for two reasons. Firstly, it has one of those titles that capture the imagination, and secondly, it was published in New Writers Welcome.
But this story didn’t do so well. It was self-published, so didn’t get the ‘eyes’ and the subject isn’t the most exciting!
There are lessons to be learned all the time by constantly reading and writing, reading and writing.
Look After The Pennies And The Pounds Look After Themselves
Having said all that, last weekend I hit that ‘magic’ 100 followers. I joined the Partner Program and within one day had earned the sum of….. 14¢
This is amazing!
Oh, I know it’s not a life-changing sum of money, but the very fact that it’s possible to earn from my ramblings is a real confidence booster.
