Seasonal Shifts On Our Ever-Changing Planet

Nature Prompt- Changing seasons

Authors Image- Ice beginning to melt away as Spring is around the corner

Living in Canada has taught me how drastic the change of seasons are.

When most people think of Canada, their minds instantly wander to the notoriously cold winters Canada is renowned for. However, the summers in Canada are actually incredible and there is the added bonus of the magnificent nature to immerse yourself in.

When the seasons begin to shift in Canada there is no escaping it. You see it in your surroundings; you feel it in the air and sense it in your soul.

One of my favorite things to see is the shift from winter to spring.

The white blanket of snow slowly begins to melt away, lush greenery starts to emerge from the ground and the lakes and rivers begin to thaw.

It is spectacular to bear witness to. That is why I always recommend that people visit the same spot in both summer and winter; it will feel like seeing a brand new place! The scenery and vibe are so different among the ever-changing seasons- a reminder of how our world is in a continuous state of flow.

I love the summer; I have always been a sun baby and thrive when there are blue skies filled with a dazzling golden sun. Luckily the city I live in is known to be the sunniest city in Canada so even during the freezing cold winters (-34 degrees!) it is still predominately bright and sunny outside.

With summer comes a host of activities that I enjoy. I am able to go camping, kayaking and canoeing, swimming and hiking- I do hike in the winter but it’s nice to do so without slipping and falling on ice!

There’s something about the energy of summer that aligns with my soul. I feel so happy, my creativity flows with greater ease, I find it easier to be completely present and life is just peachy.

Summer teaches me to enjoy every moment while I have it because before I know it the seasons will have shifted and it’ll be winter again.

The seasons, just like our emotions and thoughts are so fleeting. We should make the most of the time we have because everything is changing all the time whether we realise it or not.

Sure some changes are small and subtle, but it's these smaller changes that build up over time to create lasting shifts.

A frozen lake doesn’t melt overnight; in the same way, it doesn’t freeze instantly either. It’s a small shift that begins gradually and over time continues in this way until we are able to physically see the results.

Nature is the greatest source of inspiration and we can look to this process and apply the same to our lives, knowing that each phase of our life is a season, and each season allows us to harness a different energy. We can intertwine ourselves with this energy, aiding us in our bigger-picture goals.

Thank you Sahil Patel for this inspiring prompt!
