Seasonal Favorites

But not together

Forget pumpkin spice. My fall flavor favorites are pomegranates and eggnog.

Pre-peeled pomegranates are convenient, but nothing beats the taste of plump, juicy arils fresh from the fruit. (The bitter white seeds are inside the sweet red arils.)

The first tiny, anemic fruits appear in early November. Wait a few weeks for large, plump ones.

Another taste I adore is real eggnog, with 4 ingredients; cream, sugar, eggs, and “spices”. Or milk for “Lite” eggnog.

Know what’s not on that list? Corn syrup, milk solids, or partially hydrogenated anything.

Real eggnog is delicious. I can drink a pint in one sitting.

Fortunately for my waistline and cholesterol levels, it’s usually only available for one week. After that, cheaper imitation eggnog fills the shelves.

Keep an eye out for these delicious delicacies. You’ll be amazed at how much better the “real” versions taste.
