‘Sea Snow’ By Nicole Anders

Sea Snow

December Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Snow & White

The sea foamed like a cappuccino.

“Is that snow or what?”

It's easy to do a double-take when you first see this picture and ask what is going on. It certainly looks like snow in the frame…but is it?

Then there is the question of my feet.

When I see this image it always makes me wonder how I manage to catch a wave — ahem…I mean the getting your feet wet type, not the surfing type— almost every time I walk close to the shoreline, which is a lot.

In fact, waterfilled boots with matching knee-length waterline accessories are becoming something of a trademark: but I digress… so back to the question at hand.

When you zoom in — bottom right next to the blue boot — you can clearly see baby bubbles rather than water crystals. This is the start of seafoam, a natural event that can happen when stormy waters agitate decaying sea algae, causing it to froth like a foaming ‘’sea snow” white cappuccino!

Mystery solved.

Thank you to Mary Chang Story Writer for the creative spark to think outside the box in words and pictures and to the merry band of visual storytellers who share, encourage, and inspire others, including; Ellie Jacobson ✍🏻, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, pockett dessert, David Acaster and B.R. Shenoy.
