Summary

The author received a scone pan and mixes from King Arthur Flour as a Christmas gift, enjoyed making and eating eggnog scones, and took one home to share.

Abstract

The article describes how the author's friend, conscious of not taking up valuable luggage space, gifted her a consumable present for Christmas: a scone pan and a variety of scone mixes from King Arthur Flour. The mixes included flavors such as eggnog, vanilla, mixed berry, and cinnamon pecan. They baked the eggnog scones immediately, which were warm and reminiscent of cinnamon streusel coffee cake straight from the oven, and developed the classic scone texture and taste after cooling. The author savored one scone each day during her visit and brought the last one home to enjoy with family, perhaps to stir a bit of envy.

Scones from Scratch

Heaven in a pan

My friend wasn’t sure what to get me for Christmas, since she didn’t want to use up my valuable luggage space. She decided something consumable would be best.

Fortunately, she lives just across the river from King Arthur Flour. Their wonderful store is full of everything a baker could want, and things they didn’t want until they saw them!

My present ended up being a scone pan and selection of scone mixes — eggnog, vanilla, mixed berry, and cinnamon pecan. We made the eggnog scones that afternoon.

We ate them hot out of the oven, tasting like cinnamon streusel coffee cake. After they cooled, they had the distinctive scone texture and taste. I ate one every day of my visit and brought the last one home to share with the family.

And maybe make them jealous.
