WRITING PROMPT

Scar Tissue is Stronger than Skin

I tried really hard not to make this piece about my ex again. Okay, I didn’t try that hard. Because my collapsed marriage is, of course, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the words “rejection” and “stronger.” After fourteen years and nine months, my husband not only rejected me, but he threw me away. Sometimes, I can’t believe I write the words I do on here. But I get in the zone, and the truths ooze out of me like a pus-filled infection that I’m cleaning and clearing out to heal.

Scars are necessary. Scars tell you, “yeah, I remember that one time I got hurt (as you run your fingertip over the scar tissue) — and then I healed.”

“Because scar tissue is made of fibers, not skin cells, it is stronger than ordinary skin.” — Google
