Saying “Goodbye” to Summer
And saying “hello” to fall!
The rains are coming
It’s time to say “goodbye” to summer
It was just here yesterday, but it’s time has passed
This was an odd summer
Not like the summers before
No runs to the beach, to the mountains, or to the fields
At least not hand in hand this year
Not absent masks, and sanitizer
Missing those smiles and the laughter
Where were the outdoor concerts?
We missed all the music, the drama, the song
Our festivals canceled, our plans changed, our lives upended
But there will be others, right?
The rains come now
Cooler weather will be close behind
Fall is not far away
What will it bring with it, not like last year?
Will we always have to huddle inside alone?
Or will we be able to stand side by side watching the bonfire blaze
Perhaps chant and scream in the stands for our favorite teams
It doesn’t look good this year
Fall will be changed too
Not like past falls, changed in so many ways
Well, we will still have winter right?
