Saying Goodbye To A Dream Home As A Nomad

Living the Dream

Digital Nomad Family Moving, created by author with hotpot.ai

We spent 6 months in a nice and comfortable house on an island in Queensland, but now it’s time to move on. Today is our last full day here, and I have mixed feelings. A part of me is sad to say goodbye, but the other part is so excited to experience something new again.

Different Homes

Over the years, I have noticed that every home, whether a house or an apartment, brings a certain dynamic with itself. Does it have a balcony, a pool, a terrace, or a huge garden? Is it very loud or quiet outside? What energy do your neighbours have, and how close do you live with others? The floor plan makes a huge difference too.

I remember the best home office we had so far was in our house in Thailand, Chiang Mai. It was perfect. It was in a separate room connected with windows that you could open to the living room. This way, I could have quiet time but also see my kids playing in the living room. We had a covered area outside with a little kiddie swimming pool, and during my break, I would just go outside, hang my feet in there, and mindfully take in what nature had to offer. I loved it, but also, that chapter had an end.

I have lived various lives in this one life. I had a Dutch life, and one of my kids was even born in Amsterdam. I was born in Germany but spent most of my life in Austria before I started travelling more and more. I had a UK life, and a Thai life for a couple of months, and now I am in Australia, enjoying my Australian life.

Every experience and every location offered various learning opportunities. I learned Dutch, and a bit of Thai, and my English improved massively. A few years ago, I would not be able to be a writer here. I learned the differences between various cultures, and discovered magical places in nature that were just waiting to be explored by a curious soul.

Backpacker at Waterfall, created by author with hotpot.ai

Today, on our last day in our house on this island in Queensland, I do have sad feelings, but the positive excitement simply beats that by 1000x.

There is nothing more refreshing than the start of a new life, a new life chapter that opens up right in front of you.

We have the afternoon to pack everything, but as we sold most of our items already, this will be an easy packing mission. Being not attached to materialistic things makes being a digital nomad quite easy.

Goodbye Queensland Island, and thank you for this amazing experience. I am very grateful to have taken this step and lived on an island. One more thing checked off my bucket list.

Do what you love!

Feel hugged, feel loved.
