Savor Moments, Slow Down Time, Wish Merry Christmas For 15 Days
Find happiness in the present
I don’t know about you but for me the holiday season goes by way too quickly. The other day, on December 10th, someone wished me a Merry Christmas and I was completely delighted. This led to my beautiful idea for 15 days of Merry Christmas!
I thought to myself, why not start wishing everyone a Merry Christmas mid-December? That way the holiday won’t pass me by so quickly on December 25th.
I’m not sure if it’s my age but as I get older, I feel like time is moving faster. Weekends are a flash, months speed by, and even years seem to transition quickly into history. I want to slow things down a bit.
Here are a few ways that I’m trying to better savor moments and days…
Living Mindfully
I struggle to live mindfully every day, but I have been doing well in taking mindful moments during special and even ordinary occasions. I pause, breathe, and make sure I’m completely in the moment before it all-too-quickly becomes a memory.
Celebrate Milestones
I used to throw birthdays to the wind. Now that I’m older and have unfortunately lost so many loved ones (some very untimely), I’ve learned to appreciate birthdays, not only my own but others’ as well. I wish people Happy Birthday and celebrate when I’m up to it.
Encourage Younger Kids To Enjoy
By encouraging younger kids to enjoy their moments, I hope to give them the gift of mindfulness. If a child is complaining about school or activities, I kindly remind them to be grateful for their opportunities and let them know things are not necessarily more fun in adulthood. They should appreciate and enjoy their somewhat carefree childhoods if they are fortunate enough to do so.
Focus On The Present
As a personal finance enthusiast, I’m often thinking about the future, my retirement funds, how to reach work optional, and how to build generational wealth. I sometimes forget to focus on the present. Every few days, I remind myself that the present is the whole purpose of my efforts — I need to remember to fully live each day now and into my retirement.
Wish Merry Christmas For 15 Days
And this brings me to my 15 days of Merry Christmas! Why not extend the celebration and festive mood from one day to 15? I’m embracing this idea and plan because it makes me happy and it helps me savor this season of giving and togetherness.
If your days seem to be flying by, I hope that you discover some ways to slow things down. Do things that bring you happiness, be with people that support your well-being, and take care of your present and future self.
