Save Time Responding to Comments on Medium By Doing 1 Simple Thing

Because the notifications page on Medium isn’t user-friendly.

Medium’s notifications page is rubbish.

Or at least, I’ve always thought so.

I do my best to respond to every comment I receive on my articles. It’s pretty frustrating, then, when you return to Notifications after replying to a comment only to find yourself back at the top of the page.

Cue lots of scrolling, and occasionally missing comments from others in the process.

There’s a better way.

Until recently, I usually replied to comments on my phone (mostly because I’m too lazy to leave my sofa while the TV’s on).

But I’ve discovered I’m far more efficient at replying while sitting at my computer. And being at the computer makes responding to comments far easier.

Here’s what I do:

  1. Click through to Notifications, and then to Responses.
  2. Right-click each response and hit ‘Open link in new tab’.
  3. Then, once every response is open in a new tab, I’ll go through each one and leave my reply, closing the tabs as I go.

No more back-and-forth with the annoying Notifications page. I’ll usually get through my responses far faster this way.

You can also use the same approach with articles you want to read. Just open each one in a new tab while you’re at your computer, leave a comment and a few claps, and close the tab. Done.

Efficiency wins the day.

I’ve found this whole process far more straightforward than clicking back to the Notifications page and scrolling further and further down to find the next comment requiring a response.

The more efficient you can make your Medium engagement experience, the less it’ll feel like a chore (because it can become that way if you let it).

Have you tried this approach before? What does your process look like?
