Satisfaction Is a State of Mind

The only constant of life is change. Everything will pass. In the midst of this, we are prone to seek meaning. Why endure something that has no meaning at all? How can some be content with their life as it is — before desires are fulfilled and goals are reached?
The basic human reaction to pleasure is not satisfaction, but rather craving for more. Hence, no matter what we achieve, it only increases our craving, not our satisfaction. — Yuval Noah Harari
The Happiness Trap
When people seek something, they are broadcasting the lack of it. Not being truly content with where they are, their energy is being reflected from the world. The thoughts that come with such a mindset maintain the state which is already present.
When you are satisfied with what you are, you attract more of what you can be. This implies that if you’re satisfied no matter the circumstances, you will be attracting the right things for your being. The being, being your true self — that piece of you that is underneath the facade.
Learning to live this way can be challenging. We are so used to working with ourselves from our ego — the “seat of attention” that recognizes everything from behind your face, in the middle of the head.
I challenge you to try a meditation called The Headless Way. After many years of meditation, this was the meditation that finally made me understand the statement that there’s no center to consciousness. This continues to give me glimpses of enlightenment. I wrote an article on it here:
Stop Selling Yourself Short
When things are tough, it can be especially challenging to try to maintain a satisfied state of mind. A few things that have helped me are meditation as mentioned above, and the awareness that I’m already living the dream life. No matter how bad your life seems to be, there’s always someone who would have wished to trade places with you.
Happiness can seem to be like a goal in life — what ultimately gives our journey meaning. But what if I told you that happiness and satisfaction are accessible right here, right now? Few start to realize this before figuring out that they need to take charge of their life.
By opening up to new experiences and being aware of how it affects you, you can effectively implement the things that work and put aside the things that don’t.
Takeaway
The process doesn’t have to be a grueling one — it can be one of experimentation, curiosity, and satisfaction. The satisfaction comes from not trying to be something you are not, by wanting what you already have. Only by realizing that this is the way to true satisfaction, we can start to make the changes necessary in our routine, by eliminating the things that have been holding us back, and just letting things unfold the way they naturally do.
By the path of satisfaction, every piece of the puzzle will fall into its natural place and fulfill the seeking by the realization that there was nothing to be found.
