Saltines and Stardust
Saltines and stardust,
Well intended plans
And dreams that rusted.
Visions of perfection,
Grandiose delusions.
Make believe happiness,
Strawberries and cream
With a side of happenstance.
Glory in waiting,
Passion abating.
Slow dance life
Picking up pace as it goes.
So far away,
Thoughts of yesterdays.
Swinging in the shadow
Of an ancient oak,
Watching innocence ebb away.
Hoping against hope
That someday
My scars would disappear.
