Salt of My Eye
A poem

Tension spreads across my chest
belly tightened, fists clenched
Eyeballs swelling with a dam on overflow
Until finally, the rivulets, streams, rivers
Pour down my flushed cheeks
Guttural moans escape my throat
And climb out of my gaping mouth
Heaves and sighs, heart wrenching cries
Dangerous upon exit, yet peacefully released
The salt of my tears etched in crusty streaks
Heart softening with each heavy breath
Spirit speaks gently, comforting
Sadness will eventually pass
You’ll find freedom at last
Let the rivers flow and the tides swell
Cry until they run out, my dear
Salt in my eye, clarity in my soul
I cried, now there’s no longer a hole
