Salary of an Amazon Data Engineer
What can you earn for working at Amazon?

After looking at what a Data Engineer can earn at Google and at Microsoft, I would look at the next big tech cloud hyperscaler: Amazon.
But first, let’s take a look at the requirements a Data Engineer has to meet and the skills they should bring along. Here, I found a suitable position on indeed.com, which was advertised for San Francisco [1]:
3+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or other related roles.
3+ years in relational database concepts with a solid knowledge of star schema, SQL, SQL Tuning, OLAP, Big Data technologies
3+ years of experience maintaining data pipelines from multiple data sources, in collaboration with diverse partners.
Experience with best practices for development including query optimization, version control, code reviews, and documentation.
Experience working with Amazon Webservices, S3, EMR, or Redshift
Experience in coding languages like Python/Java/Scala
……
I think that these are requirements that any company would demand, but in addition to common knowledge in data integration topics and the common languages such as Python and SQL, it is interestingly enough to say that knowledge of AWS technologies such as S3 and Redshift are also in demand here. So Amazon seems to like to use its own services internally as well which makes sense of course. If you want to learn more about important skills a Data Engineer should have, click here:
But now we come to the question of what a Data Engineer at Amazon can actually earn. Different sources give a salary of about 130.000 US$ on average [2][3]. This is about what a Data Engineer generally gets on the market and what Microsoft, for example, also pay.
Who pays a little bit above average seems to be Google, where you earn above average mainly because of bonuses.
