Summary

A skilled electronics repairman known as The Professor provides refuge for a criminal named Hex, who narrowly escapes a violent job gone wrong with multiple casualties.

Abstract

In a gritty urban setting, the story unfolds around a character known as Hex, who after a job for YoshimaCorp results in a bloody aftermath, seeks sanctuary with a man called The Professor. The Professor operates a discreet repair shop and is the go-to person when a discreet exit from the city is needed. Hex, having left a scene of carnage with seven out of eight intended targets dead, finds temporary safety with The Professor, only to lose consciousness upon arrival. The narrative hints at a dark, crime-ridden world where trust is scarce and safe havens are precious. The author invites readers to engage with the story by leaving claps, comments, and even subscribing for more of their work.

Opinions

  • The author conveys the idea that The Professor is a trusted figure for those in dire straits, implying a sense of reliability and perhaps a past connection to the criminal underworld.
  • The story suggests a world where violence is a common occurrence, especially in the context of corporate espionage or criminal activities, as indicated by the freelancer's unexpected resistance.
  • Hex's situation implies a theme of desperation and the necessity of finding safe spaces in a dangerous and unpredictable city.
  • The author's request for reader interaction at the end of the piece indicates a desire for community engagement and feedback, which is valued in the creative process.
  • The mention of other works and the option to subscribe or support the author financially suggests a belief in the value of the content provided and a willingness to offer more to interested readers.

Safe Havens

When there’s nowhere to hide, there’s only one place to go…

They called him The Professor, and he’s who you went to when you needed to get out of the city.

He ran a small electronics repair shop down a barely used alley on the edge of the south side. Hex managed to make it there, but barely.

The job had been perfect. A quick snatch and grab off a freelancer working for YoshimaCorp.

But the freelancer had teeth.

In a filthy hotel room lay seven bodies cooling in puddles of blood. There should have been eight.

The Professor let him in and locked the door.

Safe, Hex’s world went black.
