Russian airstrike, hitting a nitric acid tanker, targets Sievierodonetsk

Russian forces, during an airstrike targeting Sievierodonetsk, hit a tank filled with nitric acid. Consequently, because of toxic fumes, the region’s governor has advised residents to remain inside bomb shelters for their own safety.

“Sievierodonetsk mayor: ‘half of city’ has been taken by Russian forces,” tweeted The Guardian.

Much of Sievierodonetsk, according to Ukrainian officials, is now under Russian control. Serhiy Haidai, the Luhansk governor, reports as much as 60% of the city was destroyed during the attack.

“Dear citizens of Sievierodonetsk! War turned peaceful town of chemists to world famous city of Heroes Today’s severe time tested each of us for strength & devotion to national interests of Ukraine,” tweeted Haidai on Sunday, 29 May 2022. “We’ll endure all & return peace to our land! We believe in Armed Forces! Glory to Ukraine!”

Meanwhile, elsewhere, a Russian missile hit an apartment in Sloviansk. Three people were killed and six others were injured.
