Russo-Ukrainian War: Russia takes out last remaining Sievierodonetsk bridge
No roads, with the last remaining bridge destroyed, lead to or from Sievierodonetsk
Russian forces, having destroyed the last remaining bridge leading to Sievierodonetsk, has made it “impossible to get in humanitarian supplies”.
“It is now fully impossible unfortunately to drive into the city, to deliver something to the city. Evacuation is impossible,” Governor Serhiy Gaidai said.
This fact, recognised by regional governor Serhiy Haidai, hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“If we quickly get Western long-range weapons an artillery duel will begin, the land of the Soviets will lose to the West,” Haidai said, “ and our defenders will be able to clean up Severodonetsk in two or three days.”
“Russian forces pound Sievierodonetsk as fears grow for stranded civilians,” The Guardian tweets.
Meanwhile, referencing the Battle of Donbas, Donetsk People’s Republic officials have revealed an artillery attack on a Donetsk market has left three people dead and a further eighteen individuals injured.
“The battle for Sievierodonetsk, which could fall to the Russians within days, is about far more than one city,” tweeted The New York Times. “Its capture would give Russia a key victory in its drive to seize the entire Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.”
Curiously, without substantive evidence, pro-Russian media have accused NATO of supplying Ukraine with the munitions used in the attack. Russian claims remain unsubstantiated.
