Running On Empty and Running Late

Photo by Jane Frost — Used with Permission

Birds are energetic guys, aren’t they? Always flying and flitting about. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past month. But, unlike the bird in Jane’s photo, I am running on empty and running late with this newsletter and our new banner.

Thank you, Jane Frost (Jane Grows Garden Rooms), for providing our August banner photo. I haven’t been taking many photos recently, and your picture stirred my desire to begin again.

July was a rough month. Captain Argentina was hospitalized for eight days, his care was less than adequate, and now we are dealing with a multitude of follow-up appointments, another ER visit, etc. And I am trying to work when I can. No time for writing or photography. In fact, I’ve only been publishing submissions to Weeds & Wildflowers without having the time to properly read, comment, and clap. I apologize for my lack of attention.

Can’t say exactly when I’ll be more active on Medium. These days, when I have a spare moment, I prefer to lose myself deep in the pages of an actual book that I can hold in my hands. There’s something comforting about turning pages that e-readers, phones, and computers lack.

Books are always a comfort to me, especially at night when I’m lying in bed, weary from the day but not quite ready for sleep.

And that leads to our August writing prompt: Books!

Write about how and what you read. Do you, like me, find comfort in the feel of an actual book? Do you prefer reading electronically, or do you listen to recorded books? Why do you love books? What are your favorite book memories? Do you have a recent read that you’d like to share with us?

Please submit in draft form, only use legally obtained images, and give proper credit, even for your personal photos. Lastly, use Writing Prompt Response as one of your tags.

Thank you, Ronald C. Flores-Gunkle, for our July banner, and thank you to everyone who responded to our July prompt Hunted. I didn’t even have time to respond to my own prompt! But, Weeds & Wildflower prompts have no due dates or deadlines, so those of us running behind can still submit.

As I always, I am grateful for each of you!
