Running Interference
26 September 2020 Saturday Poetry Prompt: the “stumbling block” prompt

Spectacular burnishes running from and to a light source the sourness of detesting special revenge and harping on the differences that keep us same The shadows uselessly blocking the ghosts from speaking tidal showers of wanton rage and belligerence escaping the metamorphosis we were all fucking counting on Now left beside a drunken shore swept reefs and driftwood clear like toothpicks allowing the build-up of plaque to colour this miasma miserable You bring up a hand and you whisper and you shout the signs all but ignored and swallowed in the people but memories and victims all standing still Big griefs and unawareness and the slapping away of tired hands this stumbling block that gets in the way that still isn’t big enough

Prompt:
Every now and then, we’ve got to push past the fact that the words just don’t seem to be at hand. Sometimes “writer’s block”, as it were, is something that trends over days; sometimes just a brief break is required. What I want you to do for this prompt, is write as if you were just coming out of a “block”. Pretend something interfered with your process. What image would it take to show the world that you’ve gotten really enthusiastic about writing again, that you’re back at it? Write a poem or piece of writing that shows the change from being “interfered with” until that magic instance where you’ve come back to life. It can be merely descriptive of moments, or you can run a narrative. Tag me in it (J.D. Harms). If you plan not to publish in Scrittura, leave a comment below with the link to your story. Rock on, write on!
