Roses Aren’t Red

Life in black and white

Roses aren’t red and

Violets aren’t really blue

Life in black and white

I thought of the movie Pleasantville (1998) when I wrote this. If you’re not familiar with the plot, two siblings become trapped in a black-and-white 1950’s sitcom. The residents of a small town in the midwest seem impossibly perfect.

The two new characters “paint the town” by introducing emotions and experiences that were previously unknown, including sex and art. Gradually, people and flowers in Pleasantville begin to change from grayscale to a variety of colors. I’ll leave the rest for you to discover if you watch it.
