ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!
God bellowed when he emerged from her.

“ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!”
The devastating beast howled as it emerged from my head.
“I AM OUT!” He screamed at me, “Finally!”
Oh my goodness, that morning breath reeks of a thousand years of sleep. I squeeze my eyes shut and will myself awake.
“You’re not dreaming.”
I open my eyes in a flash. Was this thing speaking to me?
“I am a god, not a thing.”
Is he reading my thoughts?!
“Yes. I have lived inside you for a long time.”
I scampered further away from him, pressing my head, back and bum against my headboard. I am not crazy! This is not real —
“I AM real — at last! I have been in your head since you planted the dream of having a defender in your youth. But you kept me locked in there. You did not believe that you deserved me.”
It will go away if I wake up; it will —
“YOU ARE AWAKE! And I am here.”
He keeps interrupting my thoughts!
We stared at each other for a long moment.
“Why?” I asked, my voice small and tentative. “Why now?”
He exhaled loudly.
Was he irritated with me?
“I’m going to brush my teeth and shower while you figure out the answers to your questions.”
What?! Does a god have to clean himself up? I pinched myself as he glided off the bed and headed to my bathroom.
The pain from my fingers on my flesh was deep and very real.

😴 This episode developed in response to Microcosm’s Writing Prompt: That’s What She Said, issued by Zane Dickens, the Instigator. Comment and let me know your thoughts on the real/imagined/inner dialogue. I’ve never written a story quite like this one. I thought of it as I woke up this morning; maybe it was the late-night cheesecake and wine.
Postscript
I’m not sure where to take it next. Tell me, which would you choose for this god to defend? Readers, followers, and friends (🔴🔵🟢🟣🟡🔮🆘), please comment with the number or add a new angle for me to explore.
- Protect her loved ones: The woman may ask god to protect her family, friends, and loved ones from harm and to bless them with health, happiness, and prosperity.
- Defend passion and satisfaction: she may ask god to help her find a romantic partner, deepen the connection with her current partner or discover how to self-pleasure.
- Bring peace and justice: The woman may ask god to bring peace and justice to the world, help those suffering, and alleviate the pain and suffering of all living beings.
- Wait, I thought God was a woman.
- What a mess he made: In his wake, she realized that the amniotic fluid from the god’s birth was all over her body and bed. She hated messes.
