Summarize

Romance in the glitter of an eye

There is no sadness in a love-lost chance meeting.

His eyes peered unblinking toward me, unwavering in view,

They gazed in trepidation, but stalwart, unwilling to subdue.

The heart within fluttered, broiling emotions were set to churn

To flee, to fight, the palpitations knew not where to turn.

A tendered step forward allowed the raging pulse to calm,

The grace of a shallow breath, reassured that there would come no harm.

Yet in this peace there crept a doubt, a suspicion began to hold sway,

The moment of a trust once gained, was swiftly swept away.

Returning to fear, half-truths held forth, vanquishing that moment’s trust.

Retracting, recoiling, the once tendered hope was driven to adjust.

Muscles poised, wings gripped, confidence, the swallow of my heart did flee.

I withered alone, was this being frightened of my intentions, of me?

I chose not to ponder, nor fret over this quivering heart’s rejection

For that glance to me was enough, it was love in gilded perfection.

A sonnet of simplicity. Sometimes the beauty of nature’s innocence is lost upon us. Find a moment today to find a sparkle of nature’s beauty.
