Roll the Dice

a prompted poem

Roll the dice we land on three but what about existences where one, two, four, five, six were rolled?

Our minds find meaning in symbols, words, numbers, syncing three somehow to the number of squirrels you encountered three mornings ago or something absurd like that.

But perhaps there is no meaning.

Perhaps while what we do sometimes increases the odds of an outcome, linear effects of x on y is a cleaner assumption on the world than we will ever experience;

in ignoring random error variance we suffer — internalizing what was left to the dice roll as a personal flaw.

Today’s prompt is from Courtenay S. Gray: absurdism. I had to look this one up, which was amazing because I think if I have a belief about how things are in the world, this most closely describes it!

Absurdism: a philosophy based on the belief that the universe is irrational and meaningless and that the search for order brings the individual into conflict with the universe

Challenge me outside of my comfort zone by dropping a poem prompt here!

Hi, I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and following yesterday’s piece on numbers, it looks like the stats theme of linear effects and random error variance still stands. I’m closer to finishing this stats assignment, so soon, you too will no longer suffer from all of my stats analogies :’)
