Rocky Mountain National Park

Snowy in May

RMNP sign. Photo by author.

Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado includes a spectacular range of mountain and meadow environments across its 415 square miles. We were there the first week of May, and it was snowing. We didn’t expect this much snow, but it was a pleasant surprise.

It might have been May, but the snow was beautiful. The bad thing about the snow is that it closed a few of the roads for us.

Elk. Photo by author.

The elk is one of the largest species of deer in North America and they are quite abundant in this national park. We saw several the day we were there.

Some of the best places to see elk in the park are Moraine Park, Horseshoe Park, and the Upper Beaver Meadow.

Wild Turkeys. Photo by author.

We found these two large wild turkeys roaming around the Deer Mountain area. We saw some smaller wild turkeys in a few other places, including crossing the road in front of us.

Wouldn’t that photo above make a great puzzle? Sometimes I think I should start a business of turning cool photos into puzzles.

And what would Rocky Mountain National Park be without all the rocks. I was surprised how many rocks there were. Big ones, and small ones.

It was a great day driving through Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. We only had one day. I hope to go back sometime when there is no snow and travel the roads that were closed.
