Rising From The Ashes of Despair Part I

Shock paralyzed Caleigh for a few moments, as the pain of deception surged through her.

“What’s wrong with you?” Jeffery’s secretary, Mishna asked one afternoon after he was acting strangely.

Nothing he shared, “I don’t know. I got up this morning with this inkling feeling as if something horrible was about to happen.”

“What do you mean by that?” Mishna question.

Nothing again as if to shake his thoughts out, “I can’t explain it.”

“Want to go see a doctor?” she asked.

“Nah,” he said. “I’ll watch myself for the rest of the day.”

“Ok,” Mishna said, going back to her desk.

Caleigh sat in her office adding the finishing touches to her blog when her cell phone rang. Mercy General Hospital pops us on the screen. Her heart did a backflip, as her thoughts rushed to her family. She said a quick prayer, then quickly answered the call.

“Your husband is here, you need to come now!” a voice that sounded like Dr. Santos said.

Arriving at the hospital with a $60 speeding ticket and her heart on the tip of her tongue, she rushed to the front desk breathing heavily. Thank God inside wasn’t chaotic, but on the calm side for a hospital.

“Calm down,” a nurse suggested. “You are here that means the patient is too,” she typed into the computer as Caleigh gave the nurse her husband’s name. After taking the instructions on where to find her husband, Caleigh calmed herself, and then slowly walked to Jeffery’s room.

There was a small rectangular glass embedded in the center of the door and she could see Mishna, his secretary, and another female that looked a lot like her. They were on the left side of Jeffery’s bed talking.

She stared for a while, wondering why the hospital had called. Why didn’t she or Jeffery call her? Her memory reminds her that she was listed as his next of kin.

She then slowly eased in like a hungry mouse.

Jeffery was arguing with the two females in hush tones.

Unconsciously she turned to walk out, when a voice that didn’t belong to his secretary said, “I love you.”

“My wife will be here soon, don’t let her come and see you. Please leave,” Jeffery ordered.

“You said she meant nothing to you anymore, so why is she coming?” the same voice questioned.

“She is my wife,” he states.

“You promised me that you would divorce her and we would be together,” she went on.

Jeffery was having an affair and his secretary knew. Mishna knew and said nothing! “Why are you still here? I told you it was a mistake. She is my wife for God’s sake.

I am still in love with her. I am not leaving my wife,” Jeffery protests.

“I am staying!” the voice states. “She should know about us!”

Shock, paralyzed Caleigh for a few moments, as the pain of deception surged through her. She pulled strength from it and slowly closed the door without anyone being aware that she was there. She took the back door like a thief and walked out of the hospital.
