Breaking News

Dec. 06, 2023

Kevin McCarthy will retire from Congress at end of year

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will not seek another term in Congress, he announced in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, ending a tumultuous two-decade career in public office that was marked by a swift ascent and descent in Washington GOP leadership.

The Bakersfield Republican said he will depart the House at the end of this year, choosing not to finish his current term.’

And McCarthy is gone. We still have to vote. We have to vote in our own best interests. As a people for whom voting is individual and private, long before it is governed by this or that party,

we are left with the responsibility to vote. We never know how it will turn out. That isn’t why we vote.

Two years ago at this time I was either on my way to the hospital in an ambulence or just there. They all saved my life, all the way from my son and daughter-in-law’s discussions, to that selfsame son who correctly diagnosed me and immediately called the EMTs, the EMTS who used the best of modern medicine to make me a little more stable, and the staff at the hospital who did tests, supported me, and brought me back to life! Lots of people saved my life. Two years in, I am reorganized and able to take care of myself and serve my community!

I am grateful!

All of what was then and what was now has become the past. Just like life and death, voting is this way for us.

We don’t know how it will turn out, but we hope for the best. Right now, we are almost evenly divided over who to vote for and who serves our interests best. It is our job to get out and vote, regardless of who we vote for.

We simply must do it! All we know is this:

Somewhere after we vote in November of 2024, they are counting. Then they will have counted. Someone will be the US President. Our interests will be served or not.

We will get through that too.

Soon it will be two years from then. Will we know more about how we should vote at that time?

We might not know anymore than we have ever known. All we know is we have to vote. This is why it is so important to make sure we can all vote cleanly, easily, and clearly.

Good!
