Revisiting “Why I Ditched My Pen Name”

Why didn’t this story take off?

I have at least three stories I could put up for feedback on this brilliant idea of a publication, but I’ll begin with one of my earliest pieces, ‘Why I Ditched My Pen Name’.

Like many new writers who wander onto the Medium landscape, my earliest attempts focused on, say it with me, writing. Since procrastination thrives in the writer’s world, I approached the topic with an attempt at humour about karma bursting my writer’s bubble.

This is a self-published work and, with my newbie numbers only now pushing the triple digit mark, I didn’t expect much (viral? what’s that?). In the meantime, I keep writing and have been published. The traction from those published stories has trickled down as views for my lesser works, but this story? Doughnuts. Zilch, zero, nada. A barren statistical landscape.

So my reason for dragging it out into a second light is to see what others think. Is it simply a numbers thing? Should I have more confidence and put it in a publishing pipeline?
