Review of A Quiet Place and Its Sequel Movie

In an apocalyptic world, would you survive?

I often joked that I would not fight the zombies and be the first to die if there were a zombie invasion.

But when we are faced with death, we act differently.

Have you ever asked yourself, if you can only have peace and quiet, you will be perfectly alright?

Do you get annoyed when there is too much noise or wish to quiet the voices in your head?

In this movie, A Quiet Place, you have no choice but to be quiet. Otherwise, you die.

A Quiet Place

If you happen to love watching movies with a theme of apocalypse and man vs. aliens, the movie A Quiet Place will not disappoint you.

The movie was shown in 2018, years before the world was left with no choice but to be quiet and for most of us to find solace in our quiet place.

The more I look back in the last two years, while the world didn't end nor did we have to fight off invading aliens, in many ways, the world as we knew it back then will never be the same again.

In the movie, the Abbott family has to play with one rule to survive:

Never to make a sound.

Nobody speaks as the film takes the viewer into visual storytelling of the events following an alien invasion. As a family, they have learned to follow the rule of being quiet; otherwise, the alien will soon pick up the sound and kill you.

As the family was seen heading back to their home, after they were able to get the medicines for their sick boy, the youngest of the brood, started to play with a toy plane, a battery-operated toy plane that created a sound that made the aliens come in one swoop and kill the boy.

The agony felt by the family losing the boy, can’t be expressed with any sound, their grief has to be in silence.

And as a viewer, you can't help but want them to live, but as the days passed the family has to prepare for the birth of a child. You can only imagine how it will be possible to stop a baby from crying, making a sound, or how the character Emily Blunt will give birth without screaming?

A Quiet Place is also a family movie. So when death comes into your family, do we blame ourselves if they don't survive?

How far does one go to protect their family? In the movie, the father didn't survive, as he had to choose between saving his two children or giving up his life.

To a parent, it is an easy decision.

The lives of our children are far more important than our own lives. In the movie, we can see how a teen, one who is deaf, can muster all her courage to stand up against the aliens.

Her hearing device can help kill the aliens, but this is the cliffhanger of the first movie. While the family is safe, will they survive now their family is without a father, and with a new baby, will it present new challenges into the future?

A Quiet Place Part Two Review

The sequel's showing of A Quiet Place in theaters was delayed for a year, and it was worth the wait. While this movie is less quiet, it is as nerve-wracking as the first movie.

We already know the aliens, their powers, and their limitations. It is always good to know that somehow humanity will survive, that when faced with the most significant threat, we will overcome it.

Opening Scene

The scene brings you back to how it all started. But then, anything, anything, can happen in a blink of an eye.

As the town was watching a baseball game, the aliens arrived, and soon people began to die, as they couldn't contain the sound of their scream, the horrors of an unexpected guest disturbing not only the peace and quiet but is out to bring terror against humanity.

Flash forward, the family now has to keep on moving to survive. An encounter with the alien leads them to a new character that will help them find their way to a place where they can be safe.

In this movie, a reality that could happen in an apocalypse, some people will become evil to survive.

And some people will always choose to do good and help out a stranger.

A Quiet Place Trilogy

With the success of the first two movies, there will likely be another movie in the future.

I love how the characters develop into making hard decisions about the movie. The kids have to help their mom with the new baby. Everyone is willing to sacrifice so others can live.

Maybe if in the future I find myself in an apocalypse, I would remember not only this movie, A Quiet Place but other movies, where I would choose to do what is right to save my family from harm or a stranger.

While this is only a movie, I learned that we could choose what is right for ourselves and the greater good.
