When on your journey learning about Narcissists, it’s always interesting to learn about the different types of narcissists.

One of the questions I often asked myself, was what is the most toxic narcissist?

Falling down the rabbit hole, that is learning about narcissistic abuse, at the beginning I was wondering who the people in my life were that related to those specific narcissists.

I had to keep in mind, that whilst not every person I came across was a narcissist, they surely did have some narcissistic traits and demeanors.

There’s been a lot of content on the web about the different types of narcissists, and if it has got you confused — you are not alone.

So I thought, what a great opportunity to break it down for you so that you can learn what some of the 5 most prominent Narcissists are. Please make sure to share these with your friends so they also know.

Can you relate any of these to people in your life?

Covert or Vulnerable Narcissist

The covert narcissist has this whole “feel sorry for me” vibe going on. They’re the ones who often play up their sensitivity, trying to get others to feel sorry for the choices they’ve made. You’ll hear them say stuff like “no one gets me” or “they just don’t understand.”

They can come off as reserved, kind of shy, or even a bit fragile. If you try to give them any kind of criticism, they’ll act all hurt or defensive, and might even withdraw if you’re trying to give them some constructive feedback.

Like most narcissists, they’ve got some self-esteem issues, and they’re always looking for validation and attention. They might even exaggerate their problems to get some sympathy.

Overt or Grandiose Narcissist

The overt narcissist loves to show off and make a big deal about how awesome they are. They’ll do these attention-grabbing stunts or go on about their accomplishments. They can be pretty loud and come across as a bit rude or in-your-face.

You’ll find them bragging about themselves and pulling manipulative moves to make things swing in their favor. They’re not shy about exploiting others to get what they want.

Communal Narcissist

The communal narcissist is all about doing good deeds for the community. They’re out there giving blankets, food, and donations to the homeless, and they might even travel far and wide to help folks in need. They really crave that external validation for their efforts.

The thing is, they can switch gears real quick. While they’re all warm and fuzzy in the community, they can be pretty nasty at home or treat those around them poorly. It’s like there’s this split personality thing going on.

The Egocentric or Benign Narcissist

You can’t scroll through a feed without stumbling upon their carefully curated collection of self-portraits, each one showcasing their latest exploits and adventures.

There can be a layer of shallowness that’s hard to ignore. While they may come off as self-absorbed, perhaps there’s a vulnerability beneath the surface, a longing for validation in a world that thrives on likes, shares, and comments.

They can be found dancing on tik tok for attention, showing excessive cleavage or shirtless photos for attention. Pre-occupation will be on themselves, rather than taking interest in others.

The Malignant Narcissist

Saving the best for last, the Malignant Narcissist! These guys are the real troublemakers. They’re seriously manipulative, don’t really have much empathy, and they can be downright destructive to the people around them.

They can come across as very charming and charismatic when you first meet them, the way that they may first hold themselves and speak. If they hurt you deliberately, they will be very quick to make sure that you come back to them through using manipulative tactics such as love bombing.

They’re not ones to mess with. They’re controlling and can be pretty harsh, resorting to tactics like gaslighting, manipulation, and sometimes even physical abuse.

At times this narcissist can exhibit narcissistic rage and anger towards others when their sense of entitlement or superiority is challenged. In this case they can be dangerous to be around.

Do you know anyone who fits into one of the five categories?
