Resilience
Poetry prompt

when our love was broken I found shelter in my bed for days I was dancing with my memories and kissing my wounds
I could have easily given up on love because it didn’t have the outcome I anticipated
I could have dismissed it and trust me, I already walked away turning my back on it forever
but somehow love always found its way back to me
I found it in chatty students my mum’s dinner and conversations I had with friends
it was stuck in a stranger’s smile that was reflecting my own light back to me
teaching me how drowning could turn into diving and then into swimming
until finally I was afloat.

Moving on from romantic partners has always been the greatest challenge for me. It can be difficult to make sense of who we are and how we want to move forward.
However, after enduring the pain and allowing my sadness to wash through me I have always felt like a brand new person, stronger than ever before. Surviving teaches us how to thrive.
Thanks to Lucy The Eggcademic (she/her) for this lovely poetry prompt.
