Republicans Are Killing America

They may hate abortion, but they certainly don’t mind death

As the grim procession of Greek letters continues to take the world on its morbid alphabetic journey through each new lethal revolution of this endless and aggressively mutating viral contagion, it seems the Republican Party is thoroughly enjoying this disease as it spreads and sickens voters throughout the United States.

At the very least, they’re capitalizing on it. Big-ly.

Clearly, the central pillar of their future electoral strategy consists of allowing as many Americans as possible to die from the pandemic, while blaming Joe Biden and the Democrats for mishandling it. They’re already doing this.

One only hopes the political payoff is worth it for them, as Republicans fight relentlessly to sabotage every available public health measure that might conceivably protect human life from the ravages of this deadly disease:

  • Masks
  • Vaccines
  • Lockdowns
  • Dr. Fauci
  • Reality

After all, they smugly claim, they’re defending individual liberty.

Nonetheless, the only freedom they seem to offer is freedom from life itself.

It’s that same kind of freedom that apparently allowed Donald Trump to attend the first presidential debate knowing he was brimming with Covid-19 after receiving a positive test, in what now appears to be an effort by the former president to weaponize the airborne illness inside him in order to infect his elderly Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

Alas, Biden would’ve just been the latest in a long line of American victims who fell sick and died because of Trump’s handling of Covid-19, though in this case it would’ve been a bit more directly.

Former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was the one who recently revealed that Trump tested positive before the debate, though in a nauseating display of cowardly allegiance to the seditionist-in-chief of Mar-a-Lago, he was forced to retract this assertion after Trump berated him and called the story fake news. This convinced everyone with a working brain that it definitely happened the way Meadows first said it did.

Imagine if Trump’s little scheme had actually worked, and Biden got sick and died after that debate. Does anyone believe we would ever have found out President Trump deliberately infected the Democratic nominee? That seems unlikely, with these kinds of flimsy eyewitnesses.

Truly, Donald Trump and his retinue of idiots were of an entirely different moral caliber than anything before him. There was no foul, evil, disgusting thing that they would not eagerly do. Fortunately, he’s gone. But for how long? It appears Trump will be running for president again in 2024.

Welcome to the United States of America, land of the free to spread your disease however you like, home of the brave enough to reelect Donald Trump.

The Republicans’ pandemic response is yet another dark chapter from that surreal tale of America’s backwards political fundamentalists, as they seem on the cusp of finally reversing Roe v. Wade to realize their long-sought dreams of preventing women from carrying out abortions safely and legally.

It’s completely ironic, of course, because the GOP is utterly indifferent to Americans dying once they’re actually born. They’re pro-life until you’re alive.

  • Capital punishment

It would appear on first glance that their entire voting constituency is thus made up of xenophobic unborn fetuses casting ballots from the womb. Who else would possibly vote for their suicidal policies? As H.L. Mencken noted, “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

A stunning recent CNN poll showed that the average likelihood of dying from Covid-19 is 50% higher in red states than in blue ones. That’s a pretty accurate measure of the pandemic policy elected Republican governors continue to doggedly pursue, as America approaches 800,000 dead American citizens since the beginning of this nightmare.

Yet the nightmare isn’t really Covid-19 at all. Rather, it’s the rot in our politics and the calumny and corruption of America’s right-wing politicians. Who might’ve imagined one of the two main political parties would actually be assisting the worst virus in a century kill Americans? It’s not that surprising if you’ve been paying attention to the declining politics in red America.

Still, it’s a terribly ugly thing to witness.

The latest mutation’s name, Omicron, has a brooding Gothic feeling about it. The name sounds like an Egyptian mummy’s ancient curse. It certainly won’t be the last mutation in our long line of viral misfortune, as we seem content to let the virus mix and match like it’s at a junior high prom until it perfects itself enough to slice through our vaccines like a knife through butter.

At the very least, now we know Donald Trump tried to snuff out Joe Biden using an incubating virus as his weapon. I suppose we should all be pretty grateful he failed. Still, it makes me wonder, will this foul revelation make President Biden pursue Trump’s presidential crime spree more seriously?

Rather, will Biden begin to pursue him at all?

I’d be furious if I was Joe Biden. Perhaps he might finally launch a federal investigation into the former president, and get rid of his weak-kneed Attorney General Merrick Garland, and replace him with someone far more aggressive and politically cold-blooded.

In the meantime, America seems to be under the grip of a strange and sinister curse, one that’s caused nearly half its population to fall under the illusion that ridiculous gun-toting hucksters and racist carnival barkers are really acting in their best interests as they fight theatrically against vaccine mandates (safely vaccinated themselves, of course) and public health, writ large.

P.T. Barnum said, “A sucker is born every minute.”

I just wish America wasn’t the sucker.
