Republican Senators are increasingly opposed to President Trump's attempts to undermine democracy and are relieved by the prospect of his departure from office.
Abstract
The article reveals a growing unease among Republican Senators regarding President Trump's behavior, particularly his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results and his overall leadership style. They fear the long-term damage to their party and American democracy. The text highlights instances where Trump's actions have been at odds with the principles of democracy, such as his pressure on officials to overturn election results and his administration's high turnover rate. The senators' desire for Trump's exit is palpable, as they look forward to the end of his term on January 20, 2021, and the start of President-elect Joe Biden's administration, which they hope will restore traditional American values and alliances.
Opinions
Republican Senators are described as being "terrified" that Trump will "steal" the next term and are concerned about the direction in which he is taking the party.
Some senators, like Paul Ryan and Jeff Flake, have distanced themselves or been pushed out due to their opposition to Trump's ethics and morals.
The article suggests that Trump's expectation for personal loyalty from his appointees, particularly from the Attorney General, is inappropriate and indicative of a mob-like mentality.
There is a criticism of the Trump administration's lack of stability and expertise, which has led to chaotic governance and policy failures.
The text implies that many government employees are eager to see the end of Trump's presidency due to his vindictive nature and unreasonable leadership.
The article expresses that the Republican Congress has failed to act as an independent check on the executive branch, contrary to the founders' intent for Congress in the U.S. constitutional framework.
It is argued that local election officials, governors, and legislatures, along with the state Supreme Court, have played a crucial role in upholding democracy in the face of Trump's attempts to subvert the election process.
The piece reflects on the Trumpian view as a danger to democracy, promoting the idea of a president with dictatorial control over other branches of government.
The article concludes with a sense of urgency to prevent the decline of American decency and integrity and to take steps to safeguard democracy against future threats.
Republican Senators Want Trump Out More Than You Do
Here’s a secret: They’re terrified that he’ll steal the next term.
Under the headline “Unpresidented”, the fake newspaper’s lead story said Mr Trump had left a resignation message on a napkin in the Oval Office.PHOTO: TWITTER
They raised a pit bull and now there’s nothing they can do with him. The situation is out of control.
Some Republicans saw the situation early and went home, like Senator Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. He had too many conflicts with the president and left Congress in December 2018 to “spend more time with his family.”
It’s probably best. By now he’d have been identified as a “RINO” (Republican in Name Only) and pushed out of office by people who deemed him to be unloyal and insufficiently servile to the lordship of Trump.
That’s how bad it has gotten.
Others were pushed out into the wilderness like Senator, then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions of Alabama, and Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona.
Sessions had one job in the President’s eyes; it was to protect him from receiving fallout for unusual Russian relationships and connections. But Sessions didn’t know how far south it would go-so he recused himself. After that, he was no good for a president who believes the nation's Attorney General should be his personal lackey.
The fact that Sessions was supposed to work for the nation as Attorney General meant nothing to someone with mob-like inclinations.
Senator Flake? Even though he voted with Trump 84% of the time, he was a strong critic of Trump’s morals and ethics. He saw where the Republican Party was going, and in his eyes, it was going down. It was as if he saw the future.
Flake would have no idea that in 2020, twenty-six Pennsylvania House Republicans would try to cancel their own citizen's votes. They want to send in Republican electors instead — in an egregious hit to democracy —all to appease Trump.
Senator Lindsey Graham went all-in on the Trump train. Recently, he allegedly tried to encourage the Georgia Secretary of State to throw out legal American votes…imagine if that was your vote?
This will now be their legacy.
Trump is vindictive
GOP Senators who didn’t support President Trump publicly suffered in their re-election efforts. Trump strikes like a snake at those he cannot control. Imagine working for such a person.
Washington, D.C. knows this well. The turnover in the Trump administration is higher than a revolving door — for example, there have been six Communications Directors, six Deputy Chiefs of Staff, seven ICE Directors, and similar turnover in many more positions. This is in four years.
1600 scientists left this administration in the first two years. 700 left the EPA in the first three years. Other committees have been disbanded. Even though there are only 22 Cabinet positions; there has been an 81.3% turnover rate in the Presidential Cabinet as of January 2020.
Countries need stability. They tend to benefit when professionals with background knowledge and experience stay. The lack of these attributes in the Trump administration explains the chaos and failures of the last four years.
The CDC, NIH, and other medical and scientific organizations have been overridden and torn apart by President Trump and other undereducated politicians.
The leadership from the top down is visible to all. Over 70 million wanted more of it.
Thankfully, over 80 million said no.
Is it any surprise that many government employees want to be out from under this unreasonable, malicious president?
Secretly, the United States Senate is holding its breath
They want him out too. They’re watching as the power (hopefully) leaches away from President Trump and his swamp. On January 20th, 2021 at noon, Washington, D. C. will feel different.
United States Senators and Representatives will have a drink of celebration and relief in their offices and home dens to salute their survival of the Trump era. They know President-elect Joe Biden. They know he’s reasonable and reliable, even boring. As they shoot out tweets pretending that they’re offended that he’s picked a cabinet of qualified, educated professionals, deep down they’re relieved.
What an insult to the Presidential Cabinet of the United States of America. These people are elite, smart — they have brains, by God!
Did he say “decline?” After the last four years of the disastrous “MAGA” idiocy where only the rich seemed to get ahead? It was so bad that Trump promised a middle-class tax cut…after the 2020 election of course.
If we were all doing so well, why would this even be necessary?
But this is all for President Trump’s benefit.
The Republican senators are stillterrified:
Three weeks after Mr Biden’s victory, only a few Republican senators had dared acknowledge it. The damage this has done to their party, and American democracy, could be profound.
Congress was supposed to be strong
Congress, if I remember my high school government class properly, was not supposed to be a hand-maiden to the president. They were to be an equal, independent section of government. The third part of that trifecta was to be the United States Supreme Court.
The purpose of this was to stop abuse and to keep our constitution strong. It was to prevent a dictatorship or a kingdom from forming. The reason we had a revolutionary war was to rid ourselves of such foolishness into perpetuity.
And it worked — but not the way it was supposed to. The Republican Congress failed us miserably. The Supreme Court wasn’t in it-even though Trump and his minions are trying to get there. He thinks he owns them…
No — it was the local election officials, governors, and legislatures. It was also the state Supreme Court. They saved us. The Trump administration continues to throw lawsuits, like mud, against the wall.
In Pennsylvania, another lawsuit was thrown out, this time by Judge Wecht; it was related to the no-excuse mail-in voting system (Act 77) which passed in October 2019:
“It is not our role to lend legitimacy to such transparent and untimely efforts to subvert the will of Pennsylvania voters. Courts should not decide elections when the will of the voters is clear,” Justice Wecht wrote.
One can’t get any clearer than that.
The Trumpian view
Somehow, these last four years a Trumpian view emerged. It was the viewpoint that other sections of government were all to be controlled by a dictator; in this case, that would be President Trump. (For some reason, it wouldn’t work with anyone else — that’s why it’s called “Trumpian.”)
Observers of democracy are still blindsided by this odd new thought process. It appears to be influenced by the cult of QAnon:
-everybody in Hollywood is part of a mass cabal drinking the blood of children, which is literally one of the conspiracy theories, drinking from their adrenal glands to stay young -
Trump is going to save us all!
Trump is planning a day of reckoning known as the “Storm”, when thousands of members of the cabal will be arrested.
Trump, according to some misguided, authoritarianism-seeking souls, is going to rule…forever.
But he lost. Bigly. That kind of ruined everything.
But now, once Trump leaves the White House, thousands of the people who left the government…will want back in.
Our American government has been ruled by fear
Fear is not conducive to a professional, well-run institution.
The tactics of the mob, as seen on the Sopranos, is not an appropriate method for running the United States of America.
This is why over 80 million people voted President Trump out. They fired him. On purpose.
They watched the inability of the Senate, particularly the Republicans, to do their job and act independently — in the face of a Trump.
That told them that they needed to act fast if they wanted to retain their democracy.
And based on the antics of the president since he lost the election, their instincts were right on target. It’s time for him to exit the world’s stage, and hopefully, the United States can regain some of the respect it had before Trump entered the White House.
But it won’t be the same. We’ve lost so much.
You are the company you keep
America’s friends now are the lifelong Putin in Russia, the dictator Erdogan in Turkey, the murderous Duterte in the Phillippines, the COVID19 denying Bolsonaro in Brazil, and the famous Kim Jong-Un in North Korea. I just finished reading about Jong-Un’s latest arbitrary executions.
The problem with France, Canada, and Germany? To Trump, they’re not vile enough.
Kim Jong Un also stopped his country from fishing and salt production; just in case COVID19 would enter the seawater. You get the drift.
The tyrant has been lashing out with “excessive anger” and taking “irrational measures” in recent weeks as a result of the pandemic, said one of the officials, Ha Tae-keung, who was briefed by National Intelligence Service.
Because Trump is our president, it’s not something we can run away from.
The entire episode has been cringe-inducing.
This time period will be remembered as the “decline” of American decency and integrity. The hope is that it’s not too late to reverse.
There is no path for Trump to win in our democracy
It’s going to happen. On January 20th, 2021 at noon, the mantle of power will fall away from President Trump like an old, worn-out coat. President-elect Joe Biden will receive a new one. It will then be his time to install his style of leadership.
One hopes that our new running buddies will not be North Korea and the Phillippines. We need more democracy, not less.
But this country is not done. Steps must be taken so that our government never comes this close to losing democracy again.
Do you think you might not want Trump back in 2024?
