A short story

“I was searching for something meaningful in life. The day I understood the meaning of life, I started living.” — K A Simran

Vivian’s husband Sam was the love of her life. Her thoughts and dreams revolved around him, but she was not a part of Sam’s life.

He was living in his own world of doubts. He believed that his wife was cheating on him. Vivian tried everything to make him feel special, but nothing worked.

The cloud of his doubts got big with each passing day, and soon it spread and covered the whole sky of their relationship, hiding the sunshine and hope. He never understood that doubt not only destroys a relationship but also kills the chances for its revival.

Maybe I am not meant to be loved, Vivian thought. Somehow, he had made her believe that everything was falling apart because of her. She started to hate herself.

One night, when Vivian could not endure the pain anymore, she decided to end her life. She slit her wrists, but she didn’t know that it was not her time to leave the world yet.

“Do not worry when your plans fail. God has a master plan for your life.”

The sound of her mother’s voice echoed in her ears before she passed out again.

The following morning when she regained consciousness, she found herself lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood. She tried to get up but could not move. So she lifted her head and could not believe her eyes. Sam was sitting at the dining table eating his breakfast. It was as if she was invisible to him. How could someone be so insensitive? She thought.

“That was quite an act, Vivian,” Sam said with an arrogant tone. “But you cannot fool me with any drama.”

Although the pain from the cut was excruciating, Sam’s words stung her badly. It was at that moment that she realized she had made the most horrible mistake of her life. She loved a man who was unworthy of anyone’s love. It was time to rectify that mistake.

Life was not being rude. She had just met with the reality of her world.

She looked at Sam one more time, and all she saw was a man who looked like a human, but he did not have an ounce of humanity inside him.

Her inner soul whispered to her,

“My heart is full of love. There is no place for your hatred.”

Vivian made a promise to herself to never give up on hope. She had understood that her happiness was in her hands, and nobody could hurt her without her permission.

Moving on was not easy, but she was the fighter. She knew that she was on the right path.

“Something is different. I can feel it.” Her heart whispered.

Vivian laughed. She knew her heart was right. Her life was sad and hopeless when it was in others’ possession. But now, she was free.
