The Medium Friends Reading (MFR) Club is inviting its members to contribute stories detailing their experiences and earnings as Friends of Medium (FOM) for January. These submissions, tagged as "Report Card," are meant to foster a community of sharing and learning, with the aim of helping other FOMs understand the challenges and successes within the platform. The stories will be published on Sundays and Wednesdays, with a deadline of February 4th for inclusion in the first newsletter issue. Writers are encouraged to be creative and honest, providing details about their earnings before and after joining FOM, and any insights gained during their membership. JANUARY EARNINGS UPDATE

Report Cards DUE: Medium Friends Reading Club Members Come Share Your Stats and šŸ’°Earnings!

Do you want to tell the community everything you learned so far?

This is just an announcement to members of the MFR Club, about the call for ā€œReport Cardā€ stories.

There’s not a lot involved, and it’s all in fun, so there’s nothing to be timid about.

šŸ“Œ ALL MEMBERS already have ā€œWriter statusā€ here, so just write and submit your DRAFT, using the TAG: ā€œReport Cardā€.

šŸ“Œ Stories will be published on Sundays and Wednesdays as usual. Any stories received before Sunday February 4th, will receive a mention in the first issue of the news letter.

You can be as creative as you want, and write whatever you have to say in whatever style or format that you please.

Just be sure to include a few details that contain the following information, or as much as you can, based on whenever you became a Friend of Medium (FOM).

Let readers know:

  • When did you join the FOM? (If you don’t know the date, just indicate the month, and what part of the month)
  • What was the amount of your earnings, the month prior to joining FOM, and was that a typical monthly amount?
  • What were your earnings for January?
  • What, if anything, did you discover about FOM that you didn’t know when you first joined?

That’s it, when it comes to the questions and answers that this publication would like to provide to readers.

šŸ‘‰ If your earnings were particularly good, then you should give readers an idea how you did it, and be sure to also use the ā€œFOM Strategiesā€ tag, in addition to the ā€œFOM Statsā€ tag.

šŸ‘‰ If your earnings weren’t as good as you would like, or were considerably low, you can use the ā€œFOM Statsā€ tag, and also the ā€œFOM Obstaclesā€ tag, and be sure to state what you think the problem or challenge was.

šŸ‘‰ If things were not too good, but also not too bad, just say that, and tell readers what you plan to do differently or more of in the month of February.

By using the two FOM tags specified, your story will ultimately end up positioned in more than one category, so readers can discover it under both sections.

The main point, is to help give other FOM, whether in the club or not, an honest view of what challenges are being overcome, and what they can possibly hope to achieve, from the combined knowledge that we share with them.

Some FOM are completely content with OTHER writers gaining all the benefits and reaping all the rewards.

If that is their choice, that is their business, but it doesn’t have to be yours if you don’t want it to.

For instance…

Reading is the key, no matter the motive

My month end earnings for January is shown above, and believe me when I say, that amount is one that I have no problem bragging about, if that’s how people choose to see it.

It doesn’t bother me one bit, that some people will read that statement, and see it as being in poor taste.

Those are surely the individuals who don’t realize how much and how hard I’ve worked on this platform for over the past two and a half years, trying to provide useful content and not just words.

Based on the FOM opportunity available to us 2024, my personal motivation for reading more is definitely tied into earning more money.

Does that make me any less attentive, sincere, or honest as a reader and commenter on the stories I read? NO.

šŸ‘‰ Readers don’t all have to have the same motives for wanting to read more stories, and motives don’t change the fact that reading is the key to earning.

That doesn’t meant fake reading or skimming, and certainly not hit and run activities, no matter how clever you try to be in your efforts.

šŸ‘‰ Actual reading and MEANINGFUL engagement is crucial to your potential to earn more money as a FOM.

šŸ‘‰ If you’re not giving 100% as a Reader, no matter how much or how little time you commit to the task, you’re cheating the community, and that applies to ALL members, FOM or not.

Based on my own earnings, and experience after an entire month as a FOM, the most important tip and effective strategy that I’ve been able to benefit from is this:

šŸ“Œ Be the kind of reader that you want others to be when they read your stories, by always:

āœ… Treating writers with respect by reading the whole story

āœ… Engaging with the story, via highlights, claps, and comments

āœ… Making a connection with the writer, by tuning into who they are and listening to the voice they speak in. (You can hear it if you listen attentively)

āœ… Spend time enjoying more than one story for each writer, and do your best to return to them on multiple occasions

āœ… When applicable, mention another one of the writer’s stories in a comment. It helps to build on your connection with the writer, plus alert others who comment, to stories they may have missed.

In a nutshell, just think about what you want and hope for, when someone reads your stories, and be prepared to fulfill those same expectations for the writers you support.

Final Thoughts

I can say without a doubt that my stats and earnings have improved substantially because of the FOM upgrade, but it’s too soon to say whether my new club has made an impact yet.

Here’s what I know for sure:

  • I joined the FOM on the 10th of December, and within that same week, I saw a significant increase in my stats and earnings. I earned $152 for the month.
  • My November 2023 earnings had only been $21 and prior to that, I had not earned above $50 since before April 2023.
  • When I first joined FOM I had high hopes, but low expectations, based on past announcements promising changes and higher earnings, which never seemed to happen. I discovered that this time, things would truly be different.

I’m anxious to see what happens next.

In the month of February, the launch of the club newsletter is set for the 4th, and I also plan to start engaging with club members, in small groups at a time.

Now that I’m learning the ropes of how to navigate and distribute my time between FOM members and non-FOM members, I’m hoping to possibly double my earnings for the month.

It might just happen, once I finish reading all the tips and strategies from other club members, about their stats and earnings.

That’s the great thing about showing off your report card in this way. Club members get to help one another, so we can all continue to grow.

Thanks for reading…
