Professor Aaron Beck passed away on Tuesday, at the age of 100. Here’s a brief review of his significance and impacts on everyone.

He is the father of cognitive behavioural theory. Unlike the older psychoanalysis, which emphasises development of a psychological condition from childhood, CBT looks at behaviour in relation to psychology¹.

Beck’s revolutionary approach breaks the vicious cycle in one’s mind by challenging their ungrounded self-depreciation. This is an example of a vicious cycle one could fall into following a bad breakup.
