Reflections on Milano, Italy
Wandering around the streets of Milan at twilight, after the rain
Darkness falls early here. And the drizzle is a daily companion. It’s easy to see why the holiday lights stay up until January 6th. The twinkling reflections in the sidewalk puddles and in the rain-slicked streets bring a little brightness into the winter days.

Strolling the streets at twilight the other night, my husband and I were caught in the “blue hour,” that moment when the sky is not quite dark yet and the world seems saturated in varying hues of blue.

Everywhere we looked, the lights seemed to be dancing off of the streets and couples strolled together, tucked underneath umbrellas.
The lights of the cars bounced off of cobblestones.

And street lights glowed red, making the fluorescent rental bikes parked here and there seem even brighter.

Diners huddled beneath plastic-draped tents, trying to stay warm.

I couldn’t resist shooting this storefront. The goat definitely added something to the scene, don’t you think?

These two lovebirds (he was taking a photo of her) made for a nice “photo inside of a photo.”

And the tail lights of this motorcycle against the red bicycle caught my eye.

And the pool of blue reflecting from the lit-up advertisements on the wall kept changing colors as the ads rotated.

This ancient city of Milan has really captured our hearts. After not being able to travel to Europe for the last couple of years, we have really enjoyed the feeling of being in a place so old and full of both history and a certain vibrancy that it just different, somehow, than that of the United States.
We’re off to Romania tomorrow with some Romanian friends, for an “insiders’ view” of their country. But for today, we’ll enjoy our last few hours in Milan.
