Reflections of the Sky

When there is a mirror out in nature

There is something about a still lying lake. With no waves or ripples caused by the wind, a lake can be flat and act as a mirror. Surrounding mountains and other landscape features reflect in the calm waters.

Thailand’s rainy season has started hard with lots of intense rain. It started earlier than usual and was stronger than normal. But apparently, that happens every five years or so.

I don’t mind the rain. I’ve learned to love the rain living for several years in the desert. And while it’s hot and humid here in Thailand, a heavy downpour can be quite refreshing.

The only thing that doesn’t go well with rain and is part of my life, is skydiving. But skydivers are used to be waiting on the ground for hours. We either wait for the wind to calm down or the rain to stop.

While I was waiting today for the next customers to arrive, I headed out to our landing area to capture the puddles that had formed on the landing area. We had received some heavy rains overnight and our meadow transformed into a swamp.

Getting down onto the ground I focussed on the still water and captured the clouds reflecting in the puddle.

I should capture more often these kinds of reflections in still waters. I really love the mirror effect. It adds uniqueness to the landscape.
