Reflecting On March And My Goals For April
My creative round-up for the last month
I’ve been a full-time freelance writer for two months now, and I wanted to use this space to reflect on March and set myself goals for the month ahead. Now, to be clear, I’ll be focusing on my Medium journey only and not my external client work.
Medium is what we’re all curious about anyway, right?
I know I have a long way to go, and I haven’t started churning out articles daily — or even multiple times a day — like so many writers recommend. I want to stay true to myself, and my writing. I don’t want to let myself burnout by focusing on quantity over quality. It works for some writers, but it’s not the strategy for me.
I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far, and I’m excited to see my growth in April. So, watch this space!
Stats For March
- I wrote 7 stories across 4 publications
- All 7 articles were chosen for further distribution
- 2 of the 7 articles had over 50 views
- I secured top writer tags in Books & Reading
- Gained 1 referred member
- 40 new followers & 2 new email subscribers
- Total earnings for March = $15.11
It’s by no means a huge month in comparison to many writers on this platform, and I didn’t publish much, but it’s still a huge leap from February when I earned just over $1 in the Partner Program!
Baby steps on an exciting path.
Top Earning Articles In March
My highest earning article was one of my most personal ones, where I got my boyfriend to choose what books I’d read over February. I then wrote up my reviews and published the article in March. People loved the fun idea, so I might have to do a part two in the future…
Following that, my next best articles were all about current topics and celebrities, so I’m going to try and tap into that more this month.
I feel like my writing has improved throughout the last month which is really the only goal I have. Personally, the articles I was most proud of were published at the very end of March so they didn’t receive much in the way of monthly stats.
However, if I take a look at my story stats for March, you can see that the earnings don’t correlate exactly with views and reading figures.

April Goals
Beyond my main aim of improving my writing, and seeing my confidence grow, I have several other goals I want to tackle this month.
- I want to write between 10–15 articles
- I’d like to see an increase in my monthly earnings
- I want to hit 200 followers
Nothing crazy, but I don’t want to dream too big and feel disappointed for not reaching my goals. Plus, the article count is double what I wrote in March so I need to get cracking!
Favourites Of March
I wanted to end the creative round-up for March with a shoutout to some of my favourite content from the last month. I haven’t included any rewatches or rereads, but have focused on what I’ve read/watched for the first time.
Consuming art in any form can be a great source of inspiration, so it’s important to take a break from your own writing sometimes and appreciate the work of others.
- Books: The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang (which I’ve spoken about here), and Who Among Us? by Mario Benedetti
- Films: CODA, Boiling Point, Turning Red, The Batman, and The Phantom of the Open
- TV: Euphoria (Season 2), Bridgerton (Season 2), and Love is Blind (Season 2)
- Medium articles: This piece on memoirs because I’m becoming obsessed with the genre (by Fleurine Tideman), the hottest reading questions (by Eliza Lita), and the impact of BookTok (by Violet Daniels).
