Reduce Stress and Boost Happiness with 3 Simple Lifestyle Changes
Gratitude. Minimalism. Balance. Do you embrace any of these lifestyles?
Filling my life with gratitude, minimalism, and balance has amazingly alleviated so much of my financial and emotional stress and anxiety. I am at ease and feel peace of mind knowing that I have financial stability and mental and physical clarity.
I subscribe to the idea of enough. I have enough to survive. I have enough to be happy. I have enough without needing to buy more unnecessary things.
By wanting less and spending intentionally and thoughtfully, I can contribute generously to saving and investing for my short-term, long-term, and generational wealth goals. With this financial stability, I am able to enjoy and splurge on experiences that bring me smiles and laughter, not clutter, in the present and future.
Here are some practical ways to adopt these lifestyles and find more meaning, happiness, and financial stability in life.
Gratitude
Gratitude makes you realize that you have enough and do not need more stuff.
- As you walk through your morning routine, remind yourself how grateful you are at each step: I am grateful for the running water to brush my teeth. I am grateful for the strength in my hand to comb my hair. I am grateful to have clean clothes to wear.
- Send a thank you note to someone who has done something to make you smile recently: Thank you for bringing me boba last week. Thank you for texting me that joke today.
- When you have the urge to buy yet another pair of shoes that you do not need, remind yourself of everything you already have: I have another shoe exactly like this one, I do not need another one. I already have enough at home and do not need more clutter.
Minimalism
Decluttering negativity and junk leaves space in your environment and mind for only people and things that bring joy.
- Unfollow or mute any account that posts anything that puts you in a bad mood.
- Follow a few accounts that post motivational quotes and promote positivity.
- Sell some of your used things on sites such as eBay or Mercari or Poshmark. If they don’t sell within a month, donate them. Basically, get the sh*t out of your house!
- Say no when that toxic frenemy asks you to hang out or the boss that disrespects you invites you to happy hour.
Balance
Balancing all aspects of your life promotes happiness.
- For financial health, set limits for yourself within your budget but also keep categories for splurging on fun and vacations.
- Create sinking funds for big travel opportunities, live shows, and other activities. This way you can have fun without bringing on debt or financial stress.
- For physical health, balance your exercise days with rest days, sugary drink days with more water days.
- For mental health, balance hours of socializing with people with hours for rest and reflection.
These are just a few lifestyles and practices that can bring you financial stability and happiness. Take time to reflect on other ways that you can de-stress and bring more peace into your physical and mental space.
