Red Moon’s Farewell Dance

Mystical Nights by the Mekong in Laos

This is a moon not a sun. Saying “see you later elvie”. Image by Elvie Lins

Presently, my husband and I find ourselves on 4000 Islands in Southern Laos, with one of the largest islets among the 4000 known as “Don Det” — a true paradise for backpackers. I plan to share more about these islands in a later write-up.

The Red Moon’s Dance

A poem for my readers… for you.

Awakened by a midnight call, I stumbled toward the window,

Overlooking the Mekong, where the moon’s soft glow did show.

The curtain revealed a sight, a moon bidding adieu,

Its silvery radiance fading, as dawn’s hues broke through.

Fumbling for my camera, in the quiet of the night,

Capturing the moon’s retreat, bathed in soft twilight.

A celestial ballet, the moon’s graceful descent,

A scene to treasure, a memory to present.

Yet, in the Mekong’s waters, a mystery unfolds,

The moon wearing a crimson cloak, as the story is told.

Reflecting scarlet whispers, in the river’s gentle flow,

Leaving me to wonder, why this vibrant, red moon’s glow.

In Laos, by the Mekong, a tale takes its flight,

The moon paints the water with hues so bright.

Perhaps it’s the magic, the mystique of the night,

That turns the moon red, in the Mekong’s soft light.

In our current rented bungalow, the charm of the Mekong river outside captivates my gaze. It’s like having a vast Omni theater at our doorstep. Being stranded on this island, waiting for the motorbike spare parts from Germany, doesn’t seem too bad with this breathtaking view.

I am thankful to God and thank you all for reading and support.
