Reasons why you should learn about computing basics

Even if your career is not directly connected with technology

Technology has grown exponentially over the years. Knowing the basics of a computer are not only very useful but essential if you are working or if you want to start your own business.

Nowadays everything is done through a device, so it is necessary that we have computer knowledge and know-how to handle programs, especially office automation and administration.

But I'm not here to tell you that you need to learn Excel or how to clean your cache, I want to tell you why is important to know even the hardware stuff of a computer, even if you are on a profession that doesn’t have to do anything with technology.

I'm going to start at the beginning, if you are starting any career, you need a computer to use some programs that let you do your homework and work. How do you know what is the ideal computer for you?

I know there are people that work on the store and can help you with that, but there are many options on laptops and gadgets that even they suggest you one, only you that knows the career that you are taking and all the thing you do on a computer can know exactly what you need.

When you have your computer, you should know what the parts are and what they are used for, so when you have a problem with it, even if you don’t know how to solve it with your hands, you will be able to know how much it will cost you to solve that problem and don’t get scammed.

I have seen so many people having trouble connecting a projector to make a presentation, that I understand the importance of knowing the ports and how they work.

Knowing how computer programs work will help you do your job better. Starting with how to install a program, it is good that you know what is the capacity of your computer to see if the program you are going to install is compatible with it and will work correctly.

Even if you want to play a game, you need to know if your computer will run the program correctly.

Sometimes for your computer to work better it is necessary to install updates, and although many are automatic, there are important updates that it is better to look for them manually.

Depending on what you work on, you need different types of internet speeds. The difference of going to an internet provider knowing what you need instead of going to say that you want your internet fast because “you want to watch youtube videos” is the difference that you can get in your monthly bill. You may even be paying for something you don’t need.

On a security level, we are all exposed to a hacker attack. We must be aware that our information is secure, especially when we work with sensitive data. Knowing when a web page is safe, where my passwords are protected and where we keep even our photos can prevent us from being attacked.

There are many other reasons why you should learn computing, but I wanted to keep it simple because I want you to understand that even in the simple and everyday things of daily life you need that knowledge. I hope this motivates someone to learn and tell me about your experiences with technology.
