Reasons To Stay Longer In A Job
My perspective of why people stay long in any jobs
There are many reasons why people would change their jobs, but from my interactions with clients during my work, I noticed that their immediate superiors play an important role.
People move on in their careers because they need a higher paycheck with increased living costs. Some jobs may be more in demand. Hence, employees can easily job-hop to their competitors with a higher pay packet.
However, the role of the immediate superior in exercising their leadership skills plays an important role.
In employment, we all need good managers to lead the team.
Humans do make mistakes in their work. When that happens, the superior’s leadership skills are paramount in service recovery and mentoring.
A friend of mine expressed that if he were to “jump-ship” to another job, he might not find the proper superiors because he had experienced unsupportive superiors in his career.
Another client said he could stay with the organisation long because he has supportive superiors.
Unfortunately, not all people make good superiors. Some may be good at their work, but when they become a team leader, they bring misery to many under their care.
In summary, fulfilment in employment is not just about the money we earn but also about the feeling of support and acceptance from our superiors. This applies to employment and even self-employment if superiors are needed for guidance.
