Real Heroes only Sometimes Wear Capes
What do I know? The question itself is not possible if not for the contributions of the world’s real heroes.
The real heroes are those who have inspired us to learn. To challenge what we think we know about our selves and the world in which we live. They are overlooked, underappreciated, and underpaid. They do not have product endorsement contracts but where are we without them.
Who are these unsung heroes that make the world a better place?
They are our teachers.
Where would the world be now if not for the heroic efforts of our teachers to educate us?
To teach us to read and write. To solve unsolvable problems over and over.
To not give up.
If not for the wisdom of teachers to encourage students to learn about math and science, there would be no healthcare workers in hospitals helping those in need today.
The essential workers providing the products and services the world needs to function would not exist if not for the patience of teachers.
Teachers come in all sizes, shapes, and all walks of life. A teacher is a person who helps individuals to acquire knowledge, develop competence, understand the logic of things, and challenge what we know to be better people.
A teacher can be your parents, though these days many parents are discovering just how hard it is to teach their kids every day particularly if they have not done any algebra lately.
Our teachers can be our friends, colleagues, authors we read, a person we meet on the street but more often are paid professionals trained in the art of teaching. They are kind, unselfish individuals who put the needs of their students ahead of their own. They sacrifice a better living standard so they can devote their time to teach our children.
There are no parades for teachers. Their success is defined not by grandiose awards but by the accomplishments of their students. Students that go on to create new technologies, develop medical cures for the betterment of mankind.
Many challenges lie ahead for all of us. There will be times when we feel like giving up.
In these moments remember what your teacher told you, “You can do it. Try one more time.”

“I don’t have to do Anything. I choose to do Something.”
